Renewable energy – wind power
Wind energy is harnessed by wind turbines and windmills to create electrical power and provides a sustainable, clean, renewable alternative to fossil fuels. Some countries, such as Denmark are able to generate more than a third of their electricity from wind energy. When used in conjunction with other sustainable sources of energy wind power can provide a regular supply of energy to the national grid.
Wind farms consist of groups of individual wind turbines connected to the National power grid. Smaller wind farms can also provide electricity to off-grid locations. Wind farms can be on land, or located offshore. Offshore wind farms can provide a more effective supply than wind farms located inland have less visual impact, though costs for construction will be higher.
